1st: WELCOME

Thanks for reading... that is, if you do read. We are pleased to present you with issue number two of the success planner and hope that you enjoy the contents. We would love to hear your feedback (i.e. "get famous people to write the articles instead of Life Strategies staff", or "make it more serious", or "make it shorter"). We promise we won't cry if you don't like it. We'll just try harder to make it practical for you. Welcome to the success planner and again, thanks for tuning in.

2nd: Time Management and Studying – According to a laziness addict
by Josiah Smith

Hmm... right now you might be asking this question: "Why should I read what a man who is addicted to laziness has to say about time management and studying?" Well, I am the first to admit that I have plenty of room to grow in my time management skills. Time Management can be a real struggle for me. However, the reason you should read on is because I am on a journey that is changing my life and giving me more freedom and better time management. It’s exciting and invigorating! I invite you to join me.

Time management simply put is effective use of the hours available to you each day. Every person, practically everywhere in this country is expected to manage time well. Teachers have only a certain number of hours with their students. They must use the time wisely. A contractor has a timeframe in which to finish the construction of a new home. In order to be a successful builder, the contractor must make the best use of the hours on and away from the work site. Similarly, a successful student has a mindset that each hour is important, whether it’s used for fun with friends, a class session, or studying.

What I’m not saying for students:

I’m not saying that students should study all the time, or be thinking about school all of the time. I’m not saying that at all. I'm also not saying that studying isn't necessary. Obviously studying is necessary and beneficial for a student who wants to learn the course content and get a passing grade.

What I am saying to students:

If learning what you're being taught and passing your classes is important to you, then you need to commit to setting aside time each day to study.

Decide what’s important to you and JUST DO IT! Don’t let things that you hate or dislike control your life. When my laziness controls my schedule, I’ve failed. That doesn’t mean that I’m a failure, it just means that I failed. Zig Ziglar says that “failure is not a person, it’s an event,” and I believe it.

“You are what you eat.” A steady diet of snack cakes and soda pop might taste good at the beginning, but in the end it will leave you feeling worse than when you started. If you want to improve your physical condition you’ve got to choose foods that will “build you up!” No where is this more true than in the things we allow our mind to think. While it is not always easy to control the input, it is crucial. Ask yourself, “Is what I’m thinking about helping or hindering my growth.” As much as possible, get rid of the obstacles to your growth. For example, instead of watching a TV show that challenges your values, why not listen to a tape or read a book that supports your values. Whatever you choose, it defines who you are. Choose the Good stuff!
